THE CHILD

CLUB AWESOME

I remember a time
When I was free
To be exactly who I am....that’s me

When I only noticed
The very essence of the spirit
Of the friend playing with me

Elaine, Ellen and Marilyn

We all used to play with ease

Completely free.....just to be

Sometimes we would play
At the “haunted house”
And eat the wild blue grapes

Or share sleepovers
Dreaming of our prince charmings
And our grown-up fates

Holding hands and giggling
Barbies, dolls and bikes
Birthday parties with chocolate cake

These wonderful friends of mine
Never an ill word said
Ah....the days of being “just me”

Then one day at school
A girl asked me why
I carried my purse that way

My world it changed
That girl had told me
I had to "be" a certain way

The first stone I remember
One of many to fill my backpack
Mine to have and to hold

Then one day we moved away
To an unfamiliar place with
Sticks and stones a plenty

And I became the ugly duckling
The one who forgot to look
To see the beauty that grew inside of me

Fast forward......40 years

All grown up....my sleepy inner child
Was awakened by a “Spark”
And I was able to clearly see

With hoola hoops (we were such troops)
Carol, Christine, Debra, Linda
and 'lil ole me

We stepped outside our bubbles
We danced among the trees
And we talked about hopscotch

We planted strawberry fields
Listened to enchanted stories
Etched in sidewalk chalk

Now I remember when....not that long ago
When my heart was open wide
Free from any judgements....I can see inside the real me

DAY 29 - June 21, 2013

Today I wanted to explore other types of poetry.  These are called Cinquains.  A little story told in 5 lines with specific rhythms.  The last one is incorrect, but I'll leave it just because I like it :)

FAIRY
upon light wings
dusting each flower top
with the bright sparkly tear drops
of love

ANGELS
beings of light
helping me find my truth
the magic of their love filling
my soul

addicted to the connections

DAY 28 - June 20, 2013

I woke up with a headache and stomach ache this morning. A cup of peppermint tea seemed to take some of it away.  I had breakfast a bit later and then finished my Reiki manual.   When it was completed, I still wasn't feeling the best from the headache and decided to go outside and lay down on a blanket. After laying down on the ground for 45 minutes and closing my eyes, this is what I heard (and the headache disappeared).

THE HEART OF THE MATTER

I lay myself upon the grass
Enjoying the sunny time to pass
We gently meet, chest to chest
To the ground my ear is pressed

Connecting with her presence
I can feel her very essence
The cat meows and the birds sing
And I hear the gifts she brings

She breathes out a windy day
Sweeping all the clouds away
I imagine her inner grumbles
And I am more than humbled

She is asking for some kindness
Instead of our human blindness
And I pray and ask if she's okay
"All will be well" she says...one day

The heartbeat I thought was hers
I was certain and so sure
Until I came to realize
The heartbeat was my own

DAY 26 - June 18, 2013

CHAKRA BANNER
(experimenting with burlap)

I have been experimenting making banners for a few months now.  Many have not turned out.  Some have turned out very very well.  But I have found making these banners quite expensive to make and if I choose to go cheap on the fabric, the selection is limited in what goes nicely together.  As well, I was having difficulty with the quality of the lettering on the banners and I felt very restricted by the sizing.  So I put away my banner projects until I could figure something else out.

My mother had purchased a bolt of ivory coloured burlap from someone's garage sale, or Ben had found it....I don't quite remember....anyway, I took the burlap, but had no clue what to make with it.

Here is what I came up with.  I'm fairly pleased with how it turned out....there is definitely some improvements for sure.  What I really really really want to make out of the rest of the burlap is my take on the Tibetan Prayer Flags.  I just have to figure out how to make them waterproof - the flags will have beautiful inspiration words that will hang in your garden.  When the wind catches the flags - the words fly out into the world....that's my idea :)

I made a chakra banner - each colour and words representing each of the chakras on the body.

Thanks for stopping by!

DAY 25 - June 17, 2013

The last time I listened to the night creatures, I got my nose pierced...LOL.

THE SINGING FROG

It makes total sense
Just over the fence
Up through my bedroom window

A frog in the pond
With the beautiful song
Has come to sing me a message

"You married your prince
Been happy ever since
And are engaged in wedded bliss

But now you're transforming
And you will be performing
The truth inside your heart

It's time to leap ahead
Get up out of bed
Exercise the right of your purpose

Wash away negative doubts
If need be - shout it out!
I promise you'll feel much better

Jump forward to start
Listen to your heart
And all your dreams will come true"

DAY 24 - June 16, 2013

JAKE THE EXPLORER

There once was a boy
With a whale named Troy
They sailed back and forth

They rode the high sea
To see what they could see
In search of the great white north

They embarked on "The Rock"
To the Table Mountain top
Where they found their Pop-Dee's fort

They then saw a moose
With a cod on his hoof
Then had a craving for torte

So they built a tall bridge
To look in the fridge
Because the boy was so short

Their Nana had baked
A warm pie with steak
Which they ate with tiny forks

They thought it was best
To have a wee rest
Before heading to North York

Where the Maple Leafs play
On a cold summer's day
As this was their favourite sport

So they fell fast asleep
On the seat of the jeep
Dreaming of Superman and storks

DAY 22 - June 14, 2012

SHE'S THE QUEEN OF MY GARDEN

She's a a tiny bit invasive
But I'm pleased that she is here
Dressed up in her finest lace
She's sweet and such a dear

I know that she's a poser
But I'll honour her anyway
I very much enjoy her face
And I'd like for her to stay

My dragon's blood flows freely
Across her delicate feet
Guarding and protecting her
As she takes her royal seat

The protective maple shades her
From the sun and pouring rain
They understand her fragility
From here she'll surely reign

The hosta bows its gorgeous leaves
Just past the eunonymous bush
While the garden fairies play hide'n seek
Under a mushroom's tush

She admires the long beards of my goats
Their slender blossoms do quiver
Delighted by the coreopsis blooms
And their golden crowns grow bigger

Across the way the daisies grow
Their smiling faces so sweet
They hope to get a glance of her
Before the moon dances at her feet

The willow weeps his tears of joy
At the sight of this magical being
The beautiful mallow with the purple flowers
Do their best to cover the scene

My garden is a wonderful place
A wonderful place to be
Where I can go and be myself
With my new friend...The Queen.

DAY 21 - June 13, 2013

Inspired by my lunch date today with Laurie at the Harbour Diner in Hamilton.  Good food at very reasonable prices and as always great company <3.

I love writing silly poems....makes me feel free.

THE SWAN AND THE CRAB

crab claw and swan shadow - taylorempireairways.com - google images

The Swan and the Crab
Met at MacNab
Where the Diner meets the Harbour

The swan was pretty
The crab a bit gritty
It's Hamilton -- not Ann Arbor

The crab asked the swan
"Would you like a bon bon?"
"No thanks, I'll have Mac & Cheese"

The Swan smiled a bit
And the Crab took a fit
Because she asked "with lobster please"

The Crab ordered "chicken"
The Swan paled and sickened
Cuz they ate each other for lunch

The "chicken" was spicy
The Mac & Cheese pricey
So they shared a Hawaiian punch

To make sweet amends
Because they were friends
They shared a coconut cream pie

The Swan and the Crab
Then split the tab
Wrapped up in a foiled good bye

DAY 20 - June 12, 2013

BANANA DAYS

I had a few bananas that were ripe enough for baking.  I saw a couple of interesting recipes on Pinterest on bananas - so today I thought it would be fun to use up my old bananas and see what these banana recipes were made of!  Banana Pancakes and sugar free Oatmeal Raisin Banana Cookies.  Please see below.

FLOURLESS BANANA PANCAKES

1 very ripe banana
2 eggs
pinch of cinnamon
a dash of vanilla

yield:  4 pancakes

Mash banana.  Add eggs.  Mix well.  Add cinnamon and vanilla.  Mix until all combined.  Drop by spoonfuls into hot pan coated with a bit of oil.  Allow each pancake to cook until the bottom of the top portion of the cake starts to look cooked...then flip and lightly brown.

While I was making them I thought that I would be getting a banana flavoured omelette..LOL...I dressed it up like a pancake with a bit of butter and real maple syrup and they were actually pretty good.

OATMEAL RAISIN BANANA COOKIES

1 cup oatmeal
2 ripe bananas
1 cup raisins

Yep...that's it...3 ingredients.

In a large bowl, add 1 cup of oatmeal and 2 large bananas.  Mash together until well combined.  Fold in 1 cup of raisins.  Drop by teaspoonful onto greased baking sheet.

These are pretty good as well.  The bananas make the cookie sweet enough for sure.  Must have raisins though....or perhaps chocolate chips.  May add coconut to them the next time for a tropical flavour.

Thanks for stopping by!
