Day 8 - May 31, 2013

STILL SEWING
Baby Blankets

I love the idea of giving homemade gifts....doesn't matter what it is....although I do try hard to be thoughtful about it all.  I love to make 'em and I love to receive 'em too.

A few months back I bought a measuring board.  Wow.  It has changed the quality of my sewing for the better.  Along with a sewing machine repair....I have my sewing confidence back.

A friend of mine is having a baby soon - so I decided to make her a couple of baby blankets.  They are heavier than a receiving blanket, but a lot lighter than a quilt.  Perfect for hot summer nights or perhaps a light stroller blanket.

I'm pretty pleased with how these turned out.

Day 5, 6 & 7 - May 28, 29 & 30

SEWING PROJECT
(Part II & III)

My sewing project took a bit longer than expected.  I finished the bottom curtains for the bathroom and they just didn't look right by themselves and I had enough of the fabrics to make a valance, so I took myself back to Fabricland for more beads - and now they are perfect little cafe curtains.

I had purchased the rest of the fabric on the bolt - as there wasn't much left, and decided to make new pillow covers for the accent pillows on my bed.

All in all - I'm pretty darned happy with the results....designed and sewn by me. :)

Day 4 - May 27, 2013

SEWING PROJECT
(Part I)

Sometimes creative projects take more than 1 day.  I was out and about today and one of my stops was to go to Fabricland.

Today was measuring and cutting....it takes time and patience so that the end result will look good when completed.  There are 2 projects here.

Tomorrow....this will be something else.

Stay tuned!

Day 3 - May 26, 2013

THE WRITER & THE TEACHER
(a silly limerick)

There once was a man named Chuck
Who was a little down on his luck
But then he met Carrie
Who ate chocolate cherries
While he read her book in his truck.

Amen

Told ya....very silly...I was busy today :)

Day 2 - May 25, 2013

MARKER ART

I'm not convinced that I like markers.  They seem too restricting.  I think I would prefer charcoal or just plain pencil where I can shade where appropriate.   I am likely one of those people who need to work work work at drawing.  Unlike a friend of mine who is a ridiculously talented artist - and only picked it up last month!  Argggh!

Day 1 - May 24, 2013

PLAYING WITH CLAY DAY

I haven't worked with clay in oh....I'd say 35 years or so.  Grade 8 I think.  For years I had considered taking a pottery class at Dundas Valley School of Art - but life got in the way, or the classes were not convenient, didn't have the money, etc. etc....the usual excuses.

Anyway, I bought some air-dry clay at the dollar store a few months ago and I thought today is as good as any to give it a try.  These pieces are my first attempt at making "something."

After I made these pieces, and exploring a bajillion websites on clay making,   I  found a really good website (thru Pinterest) with some very helpful information.

I have to say, I really enjoyed working with the clay.  There was something very natural and organic working with it.  I found a recipe to make my own homemade clay that I will try making next....as I found the dollar store clay was a bit dry and not as pliable as I would have liked.

With a bit of practice, I think I could make some really nice things.  I especially enjoyed making the beads.  I won't be doing anything else with these pieces.  I thought about painting them...well, maybe a couple.

As you can see - some pieces broke.  And the beads are cracking a bit and probably could have been treated accordingly while it was still "wet"  But it's all good....because it's part of the learning experience.  And I also think better materials would be helpful in the quality of the final product.
